Inauguration of Material Recovery Facility (MRF)

Orong community, one of SJI’s Zero Waste pilot project areas funded by the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC), inaugurates its first Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in their effort towards becoming a Zero Waste Community.

Now they have stopped burning and dumping waste, shops stopped giving plastic carry bags, started household segregation, reuse, recycling and reduction at source. They have also created a “Community Waste Fund” by coming to an agreement to collect yearly fees of Nu. 200 from each household in order to sustain zero waste practices and waste management activities.

Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was designed and fabricated by Jigme Namgyel Engineering College - Center for Appropriate Technology in Dewathang.
