System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Trial Farm

This year, SJI conducted its first SRI trial in Dewathang gewog after Pemathang and Langchenphu gewogs.

SRI pilot farm in Rekhey village under Dewathang gewog is now 87 days old. It has been healthy and promisinguntil recently; more farmers may be encouraged to adopt SRI next year. However, recently (2nd week of September) like the conventionally grown paddy fields it has also been affected (in pockets) by pests (leaf folder caterpillar).

To combat it, diluted Azadirachtin indica (Neem oil) (1:500) has been used (1st October). Jeevamrit (liquid manure made from cow urine, dung, gram flour, fresh soil, jaggery and water) will also be used for soil nutrition.

The (SRI) paddy may flower by mid October.
