The SJI Zero Waste Training Manual was launched on 5th June 2013 on World Environment Day. Approximately 50 people attended the launch including the Samdrup Jongkhar Thrompon, the Executive Secretary, Municipal Environment Officer and media. Our manual was officially released by the Samdrup Jonkghar Thrompon, and was thereafter presented and explained by SJI Executive Director and Zero Waste Trainer Karma Dhondrub during an hour long session. The Samdrup Jongkhar municipality kindly offered to print the first 15 copies of the first edition.
This new Zero Waste Training Manual has been specifically developed for the Bhutanese context, and gives an accessible and user friendly introduction to the concept of zero waste and how it can be applied in any community and/or institution in Bhutan. It can be used in community meetings as well as for trainings in institutions, ranging from schools, hospitals, to government offices and religious bodies. The Zero Waste Training Manual is used as part of our awareness programme when implementing the SJI Zero Waste Project in designated villages, but with an increasing demand from various communities and institutions to start up their own zero waste initiatives, SJI aims to distribute the manual also to a wider audience. It is available on our webpage for download or by following this link, and we strongly encourage any feed-back on the material, as our intention is to continuously develop and update its content to make it as relevant and applicable as possible to local communities and to Bhutanese society at large. Soon a Dzongkha version of the manual will be available.
