Another group of paddy farmers at Khamaythang in Phuntshothang Gewog are learning how to make bio-pesticides and their applications to keep insects out of their fields.
This is critical in organic farming practices.
As we shared in our last post, unlike chemical fertilizers, which are damaging to human health and actually kill insects, this organic pest management repels insects by creating a strong stench while causing no harm to living things.
The bio-pests (there are different types) are prepared using locally available materials like cow dung, flour, cow urine, milk, sugarcane sweets, different varieties of high-dour plants etc…
