Unlike in the past, this year, more than 80% of households in Menchari village under Orong Gewog have ventured into commercial farming of organic potatoes.
This season, Pema Yangki makes the first harvest from the community. “This year, I have grown more as it was efficient, cheaper, and easy with the mini tiller as compared to the oxen. I have harvested more than 500 kgs.”
Like Pema Yangki, other community members have attributed the increase in cultivation to farm mechanisation with two mini tillers. The community is expected to produce at least five metric tonnes this season.
