The traditional crops and its varieties are associated to our culture and tradition besides its contribution to the food security and livelihood of the farming communities. The findings reveal that most of the traditional crop varieties are at the verge of disappearing in Samdrup Jongkhar.
In order to promote traditional cereal crops in Dewathang and Orong gewogs, SJI in collaboration with Integrated Food Processing Plant (IFPP), Shumar, Pemagatshel under National Post Harvest Center (NPHC) is conducting a 4 day training program (1st – 4th August, 2018) on product development from buckwheat, maize, fruits and vegetables including packaging and labeling of the products.
15 woman participants including youth from Orong and Dewathang are attending the training.
The program is financially supported by Small Grant Program (SGP), GEF, UNDP.
